the Depth of Pain

I originally did this work as a study of a black male, but my motivation was driven elsewhere, and soon turned this into a stylized piece.
The software I used for this, blender, has no internal SSS, but does offer a trick to fake it using an advanced toon shader. I used this as my base and created a fairly complex node system around it. I didn't want a lot of detail in the skin, texture wise. I figured a slight suggestion should suffice as the piece is exaggerated. The piece was, after rendering, brought into Gimp for some color adjustment.
I decided to try Blender's internal sculpting tool, and I believe I was successful with it, though it has a ways to go before getting to the level of other specialized software, such as Zbrush or Mudbox.
I am looking for critiques on the overall mood of the piece, as I am going for a dark feel.

My intentions with this piece was to make people smile A friend of mine had an idea about an orchestra of Orcas. I loved it and went back to sketch the idea, once I had a 5x5 sketch I scanned it in and used Inkscape to finalize the piece. Everything you see here is vector

Its full of innuendo. I did this long before that burger king ad hit, but seeing reminded my of the image so I'm posting it now. I hope all enjoy. I purposely left it looking rough. I wanted a grungy feel.
A small sketch (like always) 4x4, scanned and then painted in photoshop in CMYK mode. I wanted it to be printed but never got around to it. I converted it back to RGB and finished it.
